Alternate transcriptional splice variants, encoding different isoforms, have been characterized. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]. Function: Binds in a species-specific manner to the zona pellucida of the egg. May be involved in gamete recognition and/or signaling. Subunit: Probably forms covalent oligomers. Subcellular Location: Cell membrane. Exclusively on the apical region of the sperm head. Tissue Specificity: In testis, primarily in haploid spermatids. Similarity: Contains 1 EGF-like domain.
